Often portrayed by the media as a businessman, Bernard Ashley was in fact an engineer by profession and an entrepreneur by nature.
In addition, he had a love and understanding of colour and colour combinations. For him, one of the joys of digital printing was not being limited to one colour per screen. Sir Bernard’s own collection of geometrics, including a range of heart-jolting stripes, is really about having fun with the technology on offer: “What draws you to fabric is a combination of colours - digital printing gives us the full gamut of 16 million plus shades to manipulate.”
“For me, colour is like music - a dance of harmonies and notes. My task when designing is to find the right frequency so that all the colours balance.”
