Emma is the youngest of the four children of Sir Bernard and Laura Ashley. At Art College she dipped into graphic design, illustration and textiles, but has now found her true vocation in home furnishings. An avid collector of vintage fragments of cloth and other design ephemera, Emma uses Elanbach’s digital print system to replicate the look of beautifully faded antique prints, as well as designs saturated in colour.
Her sketch books are works to treasure: “For me, they are like diaries - when I was young, I filled them with doodles of friends, tickets for concerts and such like. Now they are a way of remembering colours and textures of things I see and love”.
A mother of two young children and lover of the countryside, Emma has a relaxed, laid-back design ethos that many will identify with.
“I know my own style and am very comfortable with it. My Welsh roots and upbringing are evident both in my homes and my philosophy of design - it is a relaxed country look where nothing is too formal and the cushions never match”.
